iamrunning.in is a platform created by a group of NGO organisations and volunteers, curated by Earth Smiles Trust and Grit One Consultancy to regularly organise Marathons, Sports, and Cultural events to support and promote a bouquet of causes: the greening of Mother Earth, conservation and restoration of water bodies and wetlands, promotion of organic farming as well as organic & millets based food culture, women entrepreneurship, harmony and peace, and physical fitness as an intangible contribution to the creation of productive and happy societies and peaceful nations.
Why Are We Running the Rajendra Chozha Ponneri Marathon?
- To revive the Chozhagangam – Ponneri Lake built by the great Tamil emperor Rajendra Chozha I in 1020 which remained the No.1 lake of India till 1957;
- To plant hundreds of thousands of trees as well as create Miawaki small forests along the banks of this magnificent lake – 22km long and 4.8 km wide – and convert the lake ecosystem into a biodiversity hotspot;
- To inspire and motivate the people of 35 villages surrounding the lake to become guardians of this heritage lake, and undertake massive greening activities in the 35 villages;
- To experiment “Resource Based Development” model in the lake bed villages and towns by encouraging micro entrepreneurship organic and sustainable agriculture, cattle and fish rearing, eco-tourism, etc;
- To strengthen the demands to revive the entire water bodies and water management systems of Chozha kings;
- To inspire the younger generation towards agriculture and food security mission;
- To be the inspiration movement to revive all the water bodies of Tamil Nadu as they existed 50 years ago;
- To honour the great Tamil Maritime Empire Builder - Rajendra Chozha I, and request the Govt. of Tamil Nadu to erect a 150 feet tall statue of him in Ganga Konda ChozhaPuram;
- To ask the Governments of India and Tamil Nadu to declare Ganga Konda ChozhaPuram as a global heritage town of history and culture and develop its infrastructures to attract global tourists;
- To forge people's unity through commitment to the common good.
